SCCC III (Seas) vs Cougars II match report
Jun 01, 2014 10:00 AM
Cougars II won by 47 runs
Cougars 2 won the toss and elected to bat.
They opened with Ankur and Jigar Patel. We opened with our own Jigar (:)) and Abhi. Ankur started swinging from ball one (no pun intended) The first 3 balls disappeared towards the square leg fence. But Jigar settled down, corrected his line and got him caught by Zuhayer at mid off the next ball. Abhi started at the other end. There were not many hit me balls, but we were guilty of conceding quite a few extras in the opening overs. Govind and Kartik bhatt came in after the opening pair and kept a lid on scoring. Kartik got rid of Jigar and Amish patel.Sam Vora came in next and bowled his entire spell in one go. He spell read 1/35 after his 9.
Govind on the other end too finished his spell in one go and finished with a very impressive 3/17 including catching a fierce straight drive from Vaibhav patel off his own bowling. Kartik bhatt finished well with 3/31. Jigar came back for his second spell and cleaned up N Shaikh. Abhi had their 11th man caught by Govind at point. They finished at 183. None of the batsmen got going. But a damning piece of stat is that the extras were the highest score on the sheet.
We started with Govind and Zuhayer even before lunch since it wasn't delivered on time. So it was decided that we'll play for 6 overs and then take a break. The batsmen survived those 6 overs easily and we sat comfortable at around 20 for no loss. We resumed after lunch and soon lost Zuhayer to a risky run. It got worse the next ball was Govind was caught at mid off. Vivek and Mosur had a good partnership of about 45 before vivek perished caught at long on. Amit then joined Mosur, who was looking well set. Both of them took the score to around 120 when Bhargav took out Mosur with a beauty and then accounted for Amit in the same over (caught at 1st slip). Abhi perished soon after. Gautam Sista was looking solid in the middle when 'calling' issues accounted for him in the form of an easy runout. Sam got caught at point. Anand and Jigar followed after that to end the game with Seas falling short by 47 runs.
183 wasn't a great score to begin with. But one can now see the importance of those 32 extras in overall context. Some easy catches were dropped which made things worse. It also emphasizes the importance of partnerships and responsibility on behalf of the batsmen in the middle to finish the game. Hope we learn from this loss and come back blazing.
